World Down Syndrome Day 2013

21/03/2013 21:07

Today is World Down Syndrome Day. This global awareness day is held on 21/3 every year because Down syndrome occurs when there is one extra copy of chromosome 21 in the cells in the body.

Today we would like to highlight the wonderful adult literacy programme for adults with Down syndrome. Down Syndrome Ireland is running this innovative programme which is called Latch-On: Literacy & Technology Hands On.

You can read more aout the programme here. It does not seem to be up and running in Donegal as yet, but has been set up in thirteen centres around the country.

It looks like an excellent programme. They have produced a video which shows the programme in action which you can view by clicking on this link.

Well done to all those involved in setting it up.
